St. Josephine Bakhita- Wonduruba

Historical Background:

St. Josephine Bakhita’s Parish is the net result of distant apostolic intervention in the  Wonduruba area  of great Comboni Missionaries who, in 1950s as from St. Theresa’s Parish (Kator), frequently visited the area baptizing and pastorally attending to its people: 1st among these is Fr.  Benedetti Luigi and in later years followed by Fr. Michael Barton (1980s) and Fr. Bizzarro Mattia. (1990s)

The local priests who have succeeded the Comboni Missionaries in Wonduruba at the height of liberation struggle in late 1990s are the following: Fr. John Lugala, Fr. Methodius Lomude.

The Inauguration as a Parish

However, the inauguration of St. Josephine Bakhita as a Parish happened on the 8th of February 2015 by His Lordship Bishop Santo Loku Pio, Auxiliary Bishop of Juba.  Fr. Alex Vishwasam an MMI who became the first Parish Priest took possession of the Parish in March 2015 and on 15th of October 2015, war broke out in Katigiri, causing massive displacement of the indigenous people.

Geography The Parish of St. Josephine Bakhita has a border with St. Peter’s Parish to the North and to the South and to the West bordering Yei Diocese to the East is bordering St. Peter’s Parish (Rokon)
